Can I work with my own notebook at the library?

There is internet access via Ethernet in the Central Library and in the Departmental Libraries. Internet access via wireless LAN is accessible everywhere in the Central Library.

How can I access the library's electronic resources off campus?

Where do I find internet workstations at the library?

There are internet workstations on the ground floor and in the media area on the second floor of the Central Library. There are also internet workstations at the Departmental Libraries.

Computer workstations with the label "Kataloge und Datenbanken" are reserved for research, i.e. use of the internet is restricted to catalogues and databases. Internet workstations with unrestricted internet access are labelled "Internet-Recherche".

Which conditions are there to using the internet workstations at the library?

Any user of the library may use the internet workstations. However, minors may access the internet for literature search only. Users must:

On accessing a web page not designated for literature search, a login screen will pop up. Enter your Library Account / Uni Account.

The duration of your research is not limited.

To use the computer workstations in the media area, however, users must make a reservation by signing up on a list (users may reserve the workstations for 2 hours a day). Users' IDs and the duration of their computer sessions are recorded automatically so that violations of the regulations for internet use in Dortmund University Library can be traced.

May I use the internet for private purposes?

The internet workstations of Dortmund University Library are available to university students and staff for academic purposes in research, teaching and study. Users who are not affiliated with a university may use the internet workstations for academic purposes as well. The regulations for internet use in Dortmund University Library apply.

Where can I save data from the internet?

All internet workstations are equipped with USB ports so that files can be saved on USB sticks. At the computer workstations in the media area, you can also burn files on DVD or CD.

For files up to 140 MB, you can use the data exchange.

Where can I print out my documents?

Printing is enabled at all computer workstations in the Central Library and in the Departmental Libraries. Printouts can be collected at the print and copy stations. Further information on printing can be found on our web page Printing, copying and scanning.

We offer a printing service for printouts from the internet (minimum 10 pages, € 0.05 per page). Please send your print jobs by the printing service order form.

How can I use the locked cubicles?

There are four locked cubicles with computer equipment which are let free of charge for a period of time (minimum: one month) to students of the TU Dortmund who are working on an important academic assignment or a thesis.

Where do I find computer workstations with word processing software?

All computer workstations are equipped with the free OpenOffice software so that you can write texts, create spreadsheets or presentations. Additionally, there are computer workstations in the media area on the second floor which are equipped with MS Office 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
