Where can I return items?
Central Library
- Items which are in stock at Dortmund University Library: at the book return station in the foyer of the Central Library
- Items ordered by interlibrary loan: Return only possible at the Lending Services (only during business hours)
Departmental Libraries
- Please return items at the service desk of the respective Departmental Library where you borrowed the items.

Can I return books by mail?
Please return borrowed items by mail to our postal address 'Universitätsbibliothek Dortmund, Vogelpothsweg 76, 44227 Dortmund'. You can chose the economic option Book shipment under certain conditions.

Can I reissue returned items?
Central Library
- Please return the items you want to have reissued at the counter of the Lending Services. After you have returned them, they can be reissued if they are not reserved by someone else. Please note business hours of the Lending Services.
Departmental Libraries
- You can reissue books and other media at the service desk in the Departmental Library where you borrowed the items.

What do I have to pay?
- Use of the library is free.
- Fines will be e.g. charged if books are returned late. There is a table of fees and fines on our web site. By logging onto your account, you can find out what amount is due.

How can I avoid fines?
- Please note that five days before the end of the loan period, you will receive a reminder by email. You will not get a reminder by email for short loan in Departmental Libraries or if the loan period is shorter than usual! You can register or change your email address in our catalogue.
This service does not relieve you of your responsibility to return items in due time. A fine is incurred if items are not returned within the loan period, regardless of the receipt of a reminder. - You can return items by mail order (see Can I return books by mail order?)

Where and how can I pay?
In the Central Library at the Lending Services only (Please note the business hours). You can pay cash only. In 2012, there will be a pay machine so that you can pay fines and fees during opening hours of the Central Library.
