The library's public internet workstations are operated with the Linux-distributed operating system Ubuntu and the web browser Firefox. This ensures a secure access to the library's databases and to the internet.

Saving Data on a USB Stick or a USB Hard Drive

All computer workstations have two USB ports. You can plug in a USB stick or a USB hard drive. A document browser for the USB device pops up, displaying the data saved on the device.
When saving data from an application, a dialogue window should pop up where you can select your USB device as the location where the data is saved to.
Citrix Databases (ica client ) do not properly show USB devices. Select "Arbeitsplatz" and then "Laufwerk (B:)", where you will find your USB device under "USB" or under its proper name.
After saving, the data are only safe when the USB device has been removed correctly! To remove a USB device correctly, right-click on the USB symbol on your desktop and select "Datenträger aushängen" (secure removal of USB device).
Some USB devices are not recognised automatically by the computer. If, ten seconds after the insertion of the USB device, no document browser window has popped up, please press the hot key Strg + U. A document browser window, displaying the data on your USB device, should pop up.

Saving Data via Data Exchange

Save your data on the desktop. You can then store the data on our Data Exchange and access it from any other computer.
When saving data from Citrix databases (ica client ), you will find the desktop via "Arbeitsplatz" - "Laufwerk (A:)".

Screenshots

You can make screenshots of important pages or windows and save them as an image file. This can be helpful if you are having problems saving data from a database.

Texts, Spreadsheets, Presentations

All computer workstations have the free Open Office software installed so that you can edit texts, create spreadsheets or presentations.

Zoom Function

By pressing the Windows button and scrolling the mouse wheel you can adjust the zoom.
