A short history of Dortmund University Library
1965
June 1: Dortmund University Library founded as a one-tier library with a Central Library (lending library) and Departmental Libraries (reference libraries) near the faculties. Organisational set-up of Dortmund University Library recommended as exemplary by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation).
1968
December 16: Inauguration of Dortmund University
1969
First Deparmental Libraries opened
1976
Relocation to the new Central Library building, Vogelpothsweg 76

Launch of the Dortmund Online Library System DOBIS for lending

Co-operative cataloguing with the HBZ library network started

JASON (Journal Articles Sent On Demand) is launched in collaboration with the University Libraries of Bielefeld and Münster as an electronic express delivery service for journal articles.

Automated acquisition with LARS data processing system started

First InetBib Conference in Dortmund

Introduction of a new Sisis lending system and online catalogue

Launch of an electronic reading room on the third floor
Construction of the mezzanine floor (intermediate storey)

Autumn: Live chat reference service is launched
December: an integrated workflow for acquisition and cataloguing with Sisis library management system is established

Online interlibrary loan is started in the HBZ library network
Hardware restructuring: Sisis Sunrise
Opening hours extended: library now open on Saturdays

Sisis acquisitions client is installed
Periodicals information service (ZID) is launched
Retro-conversion of older book stock (digitalisation of book records from before 1983) is completed

Lending services desk remodelled
Email notifications for users
Information Centre for Technology and Patents (ITP) becomes receiving office for German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA)
ASKademicus chatterbot is launched (first chatterbot in a German library)

Inauguration of the multimedia room in the Central Library
Lending in the Departmental Libraries connected to the online library management system
Collection of the Landesanstalt für Medien Nordrhein-Westfalen (LfM, Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia) is integrated into the holdings of Dortmund University Library
"Letterheinz" library game is launched
