Loan Periods

To borrow, users must hold a valid library card. Some items cannot be borrowed (see library regulations section 6, paragraph 2, in German). Fees and fines are paid at the pay machine in the foyer of the Central Library or in the Emil-Figge-Bibliothek with cash or charged card (Monday to Friday from 8am to 3pm). The loan periods have been set by the library management as follows:

Central Library, Departmental Library of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Departmental Library of Spatial Planning

  • The loan period for all users is 28 days. Following this period are five renewals which are automatically set. However, the automatic renewal is conditional on the item not being reserved by another user in the meantime. Further renewals are possible via your library account.
  • If an item is reserved by another user, no further renewal is possible and the item has to be returned within 5 days after the loan period ends.

  • Professors, academic and art staff of TU Dortmund are entitled to borrow items from the Emil-Figge-Bibliothek up to 182 days to be used in their offices. If these items are needed by another user or for revision purposes, they have to be returned immediately on the library's request. Users have to make sure that during their absence, items kept in their offices are accessible to authorised agents in case they must be returned.
  • All other users can borrow from the Emil-Figge-Bibliothek over night or over the weekend (short-term loan).
